BENEFIT CONCERT at Empty Bottle on Wed, Aug 27 w/ ALLA, TIRRA LIRRA & WILLIS P JENKINS

The Dill Pickle Food Co-op is excited to announce that the always-rockin' and generous Empty Bottle is hosting a benefit concert for the Dill Pickle on August 27, 2008! Allá, Tirra Lirra, and Willis P. Jenkins have graciously donated their time, talents and flavor to this all-important event, occurring at a crucial time for the Dill Pickle.

Willis P. Jenkins (myspace.com/willispjenkins) will kick things off with his innovative, and frankly impressive, one-man band. Observing one of music's greatest feats right in front of you will not let you down and only the hardest of souls could fail to be inspired by his brand of experimental song-craft.

Following Jenkins' one-man extravaganza is the "postmodern psychedelia" of Tirra Lirra (myspace.com/tirralirratirra). Their sometimes drone-y, sometimes tribal, consistently psychedelic sound is refreshingly held in place by solid song structures that truly engage the listener. Or, if you're the Chicago Reader, you could simply say that they're "f***ing excellent".

Headlining the night is the gloriously layered pop of Allá (myspace.com/estiempo). As forebearers of the newly-underway "Latino-indie movement," The Chicago Reader described Allá's recently released album as a "masterpiece of Mexican-American psych-pop." Citing Os Mutantes as an influence, their performance can only prove to be perfect for a late-summer night of ethereal, hip-shaking fun.

There will also be a raffle with great prizes from local businesses!

The Dill Pickle Food Co-op is a community-owned grocery story opening up in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. Going strong at 255 members, the Dill Pickle hopes to open its doors by March of 2009, if not sooner. It is about to sign a lease at 3039 W. Fullerton and renovations will begin in early fall. The Dill Pickle, which will be open to members and non-members alike, will offer Chicago an alternative to conventional grocery stores, in both food and its economic model. Its philosophy is people over profits; the goal is to make healthy and eco-friendly goods available at the lowest prices possible. The shelves will be stocked with mostly organic and locally-produced goods. The Dill Pickle will also educate the public on food issues, cooperative practices and general healthy living. In order to get the store open the Dill Pickle needs to raise funds from members of the community. There will be numerous volunteers and board members present at the fundraiser to raise awareness and support for this important community initiative. There will also be a table on-site where people can become member-owners.

The benefit is at the Empty Bottle, located at 1035 N. Western, on August 27, 2008. Tickets will cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Additional donations accepted. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and show starts at 9:30 p.m.
