Get involved

We are getting so close to being able to shop at our neighborhood grocery store... but opening the doors requires a lot of TIME and ENERGY. Many people are working tirelessly to make this reality come true, but we need more PEOPLE POWER! The majority of our work takes place in committees, so please consider joining a committee. If you have other ideas or want to get involved in a different sort of way, please email me. We'll get you connected...
FINANCE COMMITTEE (contact: Payton Chung - paytonc@gmail.com) - Just as it sounds... This committee is responsible for the member loan campaign and securing the remainder of the necessary finances to open the store. Anyone who has a background in grant writing, banking, accounting, and other financial services is encouraged to supply your knowledge. No knowledge is necessary if you have a desire to learn about these matters.
HIRING/OPERATIONS COMMITTEE (contact: Gajus Miknaitis - gajus.miknaitis@gmail.com) - This group is responsible for hiring our general manager and figuring out the logistics for operating the store. If you have any sort of retail experience (especially at a cooperative), please let us know. People with experience in this area are crucial to us opening a successful store.
MEMBERSHIP/OUTREACH/WEB/MARKETING (contact: Lissa Levy - lissalevy@gmail.com) - This is the committee that I work on so, I am biased... we have a great working group! We are responsible for increasing our membership, supporting the member loan campaign, having a really cool fundraiser, and the farmers market. Recently, it looks like we are combining our efforts with the marketing/web folks, so we will need to design more outreach materials in order to get connected to more businesses/potential members within the community, have a successful newsletter and a very inviting website. We meet most Tuesday evenings.
LEGAL COMMITTEE (contact: Jason Gutharz - jguthartz@gmail.com)... Do you know about Illinois Corporate law? We could really use your consultation and knowledge!
There are other tasks that are smaller and need to get done (including data entry). If you are flexible and simply willing to help out for a few hours every now and again, please do let me know! We have lots to do.
People are essential to making any cooperative effort a success and we need YOU to get involved and contribute to this effort.
Please contact me with any questions.
